Tel Aviv ranked 7th best destination for foodies in 2020

Baku, December 2, AZERTAC

Tel Aviv’s vibrant culinary scene has received another accolade after it was ranked the 7th best destination in the world for culinary enthusiasts in 2020 by BBC’s Good Food Magazine, according to TPS news agency.

The magazine praised the city’s culinary tradition and noted it is a particularly popular destination for vegans, who can enjoy fresh produce from nearby agricultural land.

“Tel Aviv has upped its game to become the world’s self-designated vegan capital, with slick vegan coffee shops, and local chains such as Domino’s offering animal product-free pizza,” Good Food wrote.

Tel Aviv has been called the World’s Vegan Food Capital, as it possesses the highest per-capita population of vegans in the world, with nearly 40,000 vegans living in the city, according to Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The magazine also wrote that Tel Aviv has exceptional street food, much of which is vegan-friendly.

“For stellar street food there’s nothing like Tel Aviv’s hummus, falafel and shakshuka, served at hole-in-the-wall joints, street stands, and stalls lining local markets such as the sprawling Shuk Hacarmel,” the magazine said.

Tel Aviv is Israel’s second most populous city, with nearly half a million residents. The city is known for its lively nightlife and around-the-clock culture. It is also a major economic hub, ranked 25th in the Global Financial Centres Index.

Tel Aviv was ranked as the best city in the Middle East and the 21st best in the world by the Time Out Magazine in March.
