Today, all worlds’ leading politicians including those in Germany highly rate the peaceful restoration of Cyprus’s unity. Head of Foreign Office of Germany Ioshka Fischer welcomed Kofi Annan’s peaceful plan on resolution of the Cyprian problem within the United Nations organization framework.
In accordance with the plan, the Greek (71 percent of the territory, ethnic population – 720 thousand people) and Turkish (28,5 percent of the territory, ethnic population – 230 thousand people) parts of the Mediterranean Cyprus island will be unified and admitted on May 1, 2004 to the European Union as a “single state consisted of two states”. Each state will have an independent parliament. However, a unified parliament consisted of upper and lower houses will function at a single state level.
As Greeks outnumber Turkish population, they will possess two thirds of deputy mandates while Turks – one third. Nevertheless, the places in the senate will be divided into equal parts.
The new cabinet of ministers will include four Greek and two Turkish representatives.
