US newspapers publish article on 21st anniversary of Khojaly genocide
Baku, February 16 (AZERTAC). The US newspapers Santa Maria Times and Times Press Recorder have published an article on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The article says: “On February 26, Azerbaijani-Americans and all friends of the U.S. Azeris Network will mark the 21st anniversary of one of the most horrific events of the 1990s — the Khojaly Massacre, the biggest war crime in the USSR in the second part of the 20th century.
This war crime against innocent Azerbaijani civilians was perpetrated and acknowledged by the president of Armenia. Several Western and Russian journalists and human rights defenders witnessed the horror of the Armenian army`s carrying out despicable war crime that resulted in 617 Azerbaijani civilians massacred in Khojaly alone.
Several countries, as well as the U.S. states of Massachusetts, Maine, Texas, Georgia, New Mexico and New Jersey, have introduced parliamentary resolutions and issued gubernatorial proclamations commemorating the Khojaly Massacre. Several members of Congress have submitted statements for the Congressional Record.
On behalf of Azerbaijani-Americans and our friends, on the eve of the 21st anniversary of this tragedy, we started a petition on the White House, and in 11 days collected 25,000 signatures. We call upon you to join commemoration of Khojaly Massacre and its victims with a formal proclamation.”
