WORKSHOP ON MASS MEDIA RELATED EUROPEAN STANDARDS AND LEGISLATION COMMENCED IN BAKU
In his opening remarks, COE expert Jorgen Chibotaru pointed out significance of the event for the countries integrating in Europe, and stressed the importance of bringing legal systems of the states joining the European family, relations between Court and media existing in these countries, up to the European standards.
Chief of the Socio-political Department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov noted the event of this kind not only improve the work of court, office of public prosecutor and other law enforcement bodies but also strengthen relations between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.
Touching upon court-press relations, he said that sometimes, while giving judgment, the courts should take into consideration also unwritten laws i.e. factors of vital importance to a person, and that the public should be provided with true information in such cases. “Journalists often misrepresent facts, and courts can make wrong decisions. Our task is to prevent such facts,” Ali Hasaniv said.
