Baku, March 11, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan, the land of fire is a home to numerous ancient architectural masterpieces of gloal importance, which have become must-visit destinations for tourists from all over the world.
Ancient Gulustan Mausoleum located in Julfa district of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is one of the fascinating historical monuments, attracting local and foreign visitors.
The Mausoleum was erected on the left bank of Araz River, about a kilometer east of Gulustan village of Julfa district.
A unique architectural pearl, the Gulustan Mausoleum is a bright example of the Nakhchivan architectural school established by brilliant, distinguished Azerbaijani architect Ajami Nakhchivani.
The mausoleum consists of two parts - a quarry and a tomb. The walls of the bridge are made of four rows of stones. In other tombs, the barrow is built above the surface where it was placed under the ground. The shingle stele, which forms the lower part of the tomb, has a pyramid from outside and a cylindrical structure inside. The upper part consists of a twelve-sided tower. The top camera of the tomb is a circle of 4.6 meters in diameter. Top of its flooded walls are gradually turning into a dome shaped ellipsis. The interior is decorated with fine patterns and ornaments.
Based on the geometric patterns, one can assume that the tomb was built in 12th century.
The Gulustan Mausoleum was successfully restored by the Order of the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on October 7, 2015.
Azerbaijan has always preserved its cultural and historical heritage with dignity, thanks to the meticulous activity carried out by the President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
