ANNAN URGES ISRAELIS TO STOP MILITARY ACTIONS
The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has expressed concern over rising violence in the Mideast and called on Israel to stop military actions.
According to the Secretary’s statement issued in New York on August 21, Israel has the right to live in safety, but as in Gazza strip, Israel should not go beyond the legal norms framework. Kofi Annan urged Israeli government to be discreet and stop the ongoing military actions – “to take control of the extremist groups, and create possibilities for Palestinian Government take necessary steps towards peaceful negotiations ”. Mr. Annan expressed concern over the HAMAS’s statement to withdraw from the peaceful treaty.
Kofi Annan reaffirmed that both Israelis and Palestinians could provide stability and security through “Road Map”.
