Azerbaijan's gas exports to Europe surge over 9% in 2024

Azerbaijan expanded its natural gas exports to Europe by more than 9% in 2024 to stand at 12.9 billion cubic meters (bcm), bolstered by a 4.14% increase in domestic production to 50.3 bcm, the Ministry of Energy reported on Wednesday.
Production gains were driven by major fields, including 13.3 bcm from Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG), 27.8 bcm from Shah Deniz, 1.5 bcm from Absheron, and 7.7 bcm by SOCAR. The output represented a 2 bcm increase compared to the previous year.
Total gas exports rose to 25.2 bcm, a 5.8% increase year-on-year. While European deliveries climbed to 12.9 bcm, exports to Turkey reached 9.9 bcm, up 4.21%, with 5.6 bcm transported through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). In contrast, Georgia saw a 4% decline in gas imports, receiving over 2.4 bcm.
Cumulatively, Azerbaijan has produced 466.5 bcm of natural gas and 650.2 million tons of oil (including condensate) since the start of operations at the ACG and Shah Deniz fields. During this period, the country exported 169.5 bcm of gas and 648.3 million tons of oil.
The increase in gas exports highlights Azerbaijan's commitment to strengthening regional energy security and its role as a reliable supplier in diversifying European energy markets.
