Baku hosts international forum of the CIS countries, Baltic States and Georgia
Baku, April 15 (AZERTAC). An international forum of the CIS countries, the Baltic States and Georgia titled “Doves of Peace”, was held at the Baku Slavic University (BSU).
The Forum, held with the support of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation, is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The event focused on the theme “The relationship of the state and Russian languages in the post-Soviet space.”
The event, taking place on the eve of the 90th anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, is expected to promote the expansion of international relations and strengthening of cooperation between higher educational institutions and representatives of student and tutor communities in different countries.
Prior to the event participants and guests watched a film about BSU, narrating on the establishment of the University, its honorary doctors.
Opening the event, the rector of Baku Slavic University, academician of ANAS Kamal Abdullayev said that the Russian language is one of the factors contributing to the strengthening of ties between the nations. “In Azerbaijan, the Russian language has an important place in society. In the Russian language, we publish newspapers, magazines, and also programs are broadcast on radio and television. There are more than 100,000 students who receive education in Russian. In 40 schools, the classes are conducted only in the Russian language”, he said.
Speaking on the activities of the Baku Slavic University, the Rector said that the University is preparing philologists of Russian language, Russian language teachers. A translation department of the Russian language functions in the University, where students from around the world study in the Russian language.
The event was attended by MPs, prominent journalists, writers of Azerbaijan, the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to Azerbaijan. In the whole, the Forum brings together 50 participants from 15 universities of 12 countries.
