Georgian President, Mikhail Saakashvili asked BP to increase security measures during the constructions of Baku–Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline at Georgia’s Borjomi area.

According to Georgian President, “BP must undertake all possible security measures at Borjomi Valley,” AzerTAj correspondent reported. “We demanded to lay the pipes deeper than in other areas.” We want to protect the environment of the Valley and avoid possible terrorist acts that can harm Borjomi’s environment, said Georgian President.

”The BTC project has a strategic importance for Georgia,” said Saakashvili. “But the safety of our citizens, Georgia’s ecology and natural resources are more important as constituent parts of our future.” Georgian President noted that BP has accomplished all conditions of Georgia at this stage, so the company was been allowed to restart constructions. "If all security conditions are not accomplished, we’ll not allow to operate the pipeline,” said Saakashvili.
