CASPIAN ISSUES BEING DISCUSSED IN MOSCOW
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov, as well as representatives of Foreign Ministries of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran arrived in Moscow to partake at the session to define the legal status of the Caspian Sea. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Ivanov attended the opening session.
Addressing the meeting, Igor Ivanov summed up the results of the work, which had been done up to now. According to him, an active work on elaboration of the draft Convention on the Caspian legal status is now in progress, and littoral countries coordinate their positions. He also highly appreciated the bilateral cooperation between some littoral states, and as an example cited the agreements signed between Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
He stressed all Caspian littoral countries should coordinate issues on draft agreements on navigation, environment protection, utilization of bio-resources and meteorology.
The sitting participants plan to sign resulting document.
