COP29 features Ministerial Meeting on Energy Initiatives

A high-level roundtable on Green Energy, Hydrogen, Global Energy Storage, and Grids was held as part of COP29 in Baku.
The event was co-organized by the COP29 Presidency, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The discussions focused on achieving the energy targets set at COP28 and featured three key initiatives from the COP29 Action Agenda: the Green Energy Zones and Corridors Pledge, the Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge, and the COP29 Hydrogen Declaration.
Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and Tatiana Molcean, UNECE Executive Secretary, emphasized that coming together at this critical juncture presents a historic opportunity to shape the future of global energy.
They highlighted that these three energy initiatives, consisting of five components proposed by the COP29 Presidency, offer concrete solutions to support the successful implementation of COP28 commitments, including tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency.
Other speakers underscored the importance of collective efforts to support these initiatives and work toward shared outcomes to achieve ambitious energy targets.
