“DAY OF LUKOIL” HELD IN ASOA
On the same day, a meeting between students, teaching staff and President of “Lukoil” Oil “Azineftekhim” graduate 1974, Vagit Alakbarov was held at the assembly hall.
Opening the meeting, Academy rector professor Siyavush Karayev noted that at the personal initiative of Vagit Alakbarov, Lukoil’s official delegation visited ASOA to talk on holding the “Day of Lukoil”. Rector informed the participants on activity of “Lukoil”, world’s biggest private oil company having proven crude oil reserves in the region of 2 billion tons and natural gas – about 375 billion m3. Since 1996, Lukoil has actively operated in Azerbaijan. Today, its share in “Shahdeniz” project comes to 10%, “Zikh Govsani” – 50%, “Yalama” – 80%. Lukoil owns a large network of filling stations throughout the country. The Company has invested over $500 million in Azerbaijani economy in total. Aside from this, about $2 million has been assigned on charity actions and humanitarian projects. Lukoil’s participation became possible due to Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy.
According to Siyavush Karayev, the name of Vagit Alakbarov, who founded the heavyweight oil company, is entered into the Academy’s history and his portrait is hung at the ASOA’s museum. Later on, rector stated that Vagit Alakparov had been elected as an honorary doctor of Academy with a relevant certificate.
Vagit Alakparov told of future directions of Lukoil’s activity and noted that Azerbaijan and Caspian Sea are the key areas of company’s activity. Necessary factor of cooperation development is the achievement of consensus among Caspian states on the sea status.
Mr. Alakbarov stressed that gas is the future of world economy and Russia, Europe and continental China would be major gas consumers.
At present, about 2 thousand young employees are working in the company and, in accordance with the agreement reached with 6 Russian universities, cadres are being trained and studied for Lukoil. ASOA has become the first foreign higher education, the students of which will be given scholarships and provided with jobs.
Chief of HR department Anatoliy Moskalenko called the names of eight scholars and wished them success in their studies.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister Misir Mardanov, who thanked Vagit Alakbarov for his humanitarian activity, interim charge' d'affaires of Russia in Azerbaijan Stanislav Chernavskiy, SOCAR’s President Natig Aliyev, ANAS president Mahmud Karimov.
