DE-MINING ACTIONS UNDERWAY
Way Industry made a small machine that looks similar to a tractor was made in a Slovakian factory. It was created in order to de-mine large territories that have been tainted with thousands of landmines.
Although this process doesn’t actually de-mine fully, what it does do is plough the earth, grinding at a depth of 25 centimeters, exposing all objects, including roots of trees and even iron and concrete objects to the surface. The equipment cost Azerbaijan some $320,000, with plans by the nation to purchase three more similar pieces of equipment in the near future. De-mining of Azerbaijan’s lands is an urgent issue. 11 people have already died here this year in mine explosions.
According to Milan Voytush, head of the Technical Support Group, the machine started to be sold commercially two years ago, and has been proved to be successful in nations in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The speed of de-mining depends on climatic conditions, earth quality and local relief. In Azerbaijan, BOZENA-4 can work at a rate of 500 square meters per day and operated by a portable remote control or set control.
Rufat Hajiyev, one of three operators that have received training in Slovakia in operating this machine, demonstrated the wide range ability of BOZENA-4 Wednesday at a press conference held in Fizuli. According to Hajiyev, the operator’s job is very difficult and requires a great deal of responsibility. Shifts lasts five hours each, requiring full attention.
