The regional ecological Center for Caucasus (REC Caucasus) jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and National Resources of Azerbaijan started the realization of the program of environmental protection local plan of actions.

A seminar on the issues of development and realization of the environmental protection plan of actions as well as on discussions of the most efficient ways of local environmental planning has been recently held in Guba, coordinator of the informational point of REC Caucasus Ilkin Kengerli reports. REC Caucasus, an independent, non-political, non-commercial environmental organization was founded to supply with necessary information, consultation and financial support of ecological organizations and deepening the cooperation between NGOs, governmental organizations, business circles and mass media in the Caucasian region.

This program foresees environmental protection actions locally in three selected towns or regional centers, one in each country - Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, Kengerli said. This selection will be made as a result of competition. The winner will be given a pilot grant. Main criteria for selection of a town to take part in this program were represented at the seminar. A winner NGO will be determined taking into consideration experience on environmental accomplishment by means of concrete actions, traditions of careful attitude towards natural resources, existence of developed infrastructure, experience of cooperation with local organs of authority, international structures on realization of programs and many others. The towns of Alibayramli, Ganja, Guba are among candidates, the project of Sumgait ecologists is considered as well.
