Energy transition ensures long-lasting sustainable development, says expert
Baku, September 13, AZERTAC
“The energy transition ensures the long-lasting sustainable development, with renewables, coming from the unlimited resources, increasing the energy supply sustainability,” Orxan Karimzada, Assistant Professor at Azerbaijan’s ADA University, green energy expert, told AZERTAC.
According to him, the energy transition contributes to the economic development, creation of jobs, and preservation of ecosystem.
“Currently, fossil fuels account for 84 percent of world’s energy consumption, however, global efforts are underway to reduce that proportion within the COP Conference. The Paris Agreement aims for countries to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,” the expert noted.
He said that to keep global warming within 1.5°C reach – as called for in the Paris Agreement – emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2030.

Karimzade further emphasized that the Paris Agreement envisages keeping global warming below the 2°C by 2100. “The Paris Agreement also aims reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030,” the expert added.
