EU-WHO project continues to perform cold chain inventory

As part of the European Union (EU)-funded COVID-19 Vaccination Support Project implemented by World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan continues to perform the cold chain inventory across the country.
According to the WHO’s country office, the inventory process is carried out by specialists of the local Hygiene and Epidemiology Centers (HEC) in line with the WHO Inventory and Gap Analysis (IGAS) instrument.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health and WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan traveled to the northern part of the country to control the cold chain inventory activities. While visiting the Guba, Gusar and Khachmaz districts, the Monitoring Group compiled a report after observing the process of qualitative data collection and entry. Tours to other regions in the next few weeks is planned to control the relevant cold chain inventory process.
The use of WHO IGAS tool is helpful for estimating maintenance of such equipment according to the current vaccination schedule, as well as in case of new vaccines′ introduction. It is important for country-level decision-making to improve the cold chain inventory by performing gap analysis.
The EU-funded COVID-19 Vaccination Support project implemented by WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan since June 2021 covers three years and aims to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen routine immunization programs across the country. The project is part of the continued support of the European Union and WHO to Azerbaijan.
