Final segment of Ministerial Meeting on New Urban Agenda held
Baku, May 17, AZERTAC
The final segment of the Ministerial Meeting on the New Urban Agenda (NUA) was held at the end of the first day of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and WUF13 National Coordinator, summarized the results of the discussions on the first day of the session.
According to him, the discussions once again showed that despite the fact that ten years have passed since the adoption of the New Urban Agenda and is in its interim stage of implementation, it is not only relevant, but also necessary.
He underlined that compact urban planning, green transport and nature-oriented solutions improve both environmental protection and the quality of life. Therefore, the coordination of the urban and climate agendas is of vital importance.
Anar Guliyev emphasized that hosting this dialogue is of particular importance for Azerbaijan. The experience gained from Baku to the reconstruction of Karabakh and East Zangezur shows that urban planning and housing policy are not only technical responsibilities, but also strategic tools for sustainability, stability and long-term development.
Anar Guliyev then presented a preliminary summary of the first ministerial meeting of WUF13.
