Staying for a two-day working visit in Washington D.C. Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met here Thursday with Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission Senator Sam Brownback, former Deputy of State Richard Armitage, Chairman of the Congress working group for Azerbaijan, Congressman Solomon Ortiz and member of the group, Congressmen Silvestre Reyes. Current state and prospects of the Azerbaijan-US relationship, situation in the region, energy security in Caspian basin, enhancement of bilateral economic cooperation and other issues of mutual interest were discussed during meeting.

Later on the same day, an official reception was given in honor of the Azeri Foreign Minister with representatives of the Heritage Foundation, Hudson Institute, Johns Hopkins University’s Institute for Central Asia and Caucasus, Department of State, white House and USA-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce in attendance.

Today, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov is expected to deliver a lecture on the theme “Azerbaijan Foreign Policy Challenges”, and meet with Secretary of State Mrs. Condoleezza Rice, U.S. co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk group Steven Mann, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried and National Security Adviser Steven Hadley.
