From Rabbi Marc Schneier, President of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding
His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Dear President Aliyev,
I write to congratulate you and the beloved peoples of the Republic of Azerbaijan as you celebrate today the 100th birthday of your revered father, the National Leader and founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, H.E. Heydar Aliyev.
His legacy, cherished by the Azerbaijani people, is a source of great inspiration: Your esteemed father preserved the stability and sustainability of the independent state of Azerbaijan. He saved the country when it was on the verge of civil war. Throughout his presidency, he understood the importance of culture and education, as well as the promotion of international cooperation, key components of the country’s political agenda.
Today’s celebration is a time to honor your father’s memory and an opportunity to reflect on how you successfully followed his path with your remarkable achievements. As the visionary leader of Azerbaijan, you are expanding your father’s legacy, making Azerbaijan an outstanding beacon of tolerance, a model of interreligious cooperation highly regarded by the international community, and a country proud of its culture and respected by its neighbors.
As a recent example, your father laid the foundation and envisioned a strong relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan. This year, you fulfilled and completed his vision with the opening of an Azerbaijani Embassy in Tel Aviv.
For all these extraordinary achievements, and more, throughout the lifetime of H.E. Heydar Aliyev and throughout your own esteemed leadership, please accept my heartfelt congratulations and wishes for continued success.
Very truly yours,
Rabbi Marc Schneier
