An opening ceremony marking the start of the new academic year was held at the Garabagh Weekend School operating under the Sweden-Azerbaijan Union (SAF) in Stockholm.
The event is of great importance in fostering a sense of attachment to national and spiritual values and nurturing patriotism among children of Azerbaijanis living abroad.
As emphasized by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev at the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Shusha, weekend schools operating outside the country are of strategic importance for the future development of Azerbaijan’s diaspora.
Chairwoman of the SAF Sevda Dadashova noted that such schools play an irreplaceable role in protecting Azerbaijani children living abroad from assimilation, while preserving the native language, national identity, history, and cultural heritage.
“The native language is the soul of the nation and the memory of the people. A child who knows their native language recognizes their roots, understands their identity, and strengthens their spiritual ties with the Motherland. The Garabagh Weekend School, operating precisely for this noble purpose, instills in children not only knowledge but also love for Azerbaijan, national pride, and patriotism,” Dadashova said.
She emphasized that the school is constantly supported by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and expressed her deep gratitude to the Committee’s Chairman Fuad Muradov and the entire staff.
During the event, the annual curriculum of the Garabagh Weekend School was presented, after which Sevda Dadashova introduced new pupils and teachers and familiarized them with the activities of the educational institution.
In the new academic year, the Garabagh Weekend School plans to offer classes in the Azerbaijani language, national music, and folk dances.
