Hazardous liquid leak at BP service station near Geelong puts dozens of people in hospital
Baku, March 2, AZERTAC
About 30 people have been taken to hospital, some suffering respiratory problems, after a hazardous liquid leak at a BP service station near Geelong, according to Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
About 100 litres of liquid has leaked at the station on the Princes Highway at Avalon since it was detected about 1:00pm.
The leak came from a B-double truck carrying butyl acrylate, which is similar to paint thinner.
It is understood the leak came from a crack at the rear of the truck.
Ambulance Victoria said 30 people had been transported to Geelong Hospital as a result of coming into contact with the product's vapours, but were all in a stable condition.
Geelong Hospital said 35 people had been admitted following the incident, with the possibility that one of them would remain in hospital overnight for observation.
