Hikmet Hajiyev: Almost all parties to the Convention are fossil fuels consumers
Baku, November 12, AZERTAC
“Today, the real world has its own demands, and fossil fuels are part of the present world. Of course, it is having a negative impact on the climate, that's a fact. However, we need to work together to address this, rather than engaging in superficial and irrelevant discussions,” Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told journalists.
“Almost all countries that have hosted COP events so far have, in one way or another, been producers of fossil fuels. Before us, COPs were held in European countries, such as Katowice, Poland—one of the world's largest coal producers—and in Glasgow, UK, another major coal production site. Therefore, the focus should be on contributing to result-oriented discussions, not mutual accusations,” the President’s assistant added.
The President's assistant further stressed that in general, if there is supply on one side, there is demand on the other, noting that almost all parties to the Convention are fossil fuels consumers.
