INTERIOR MINISTER OF AUSTRIA VISITS AZERBAIJAN
Interior minister of Azerbaijan Colonel-General Ramil Usubov met the Minister of Interior Affairs of Austria Ernst Strasser, being on a 3-day visit in Azerbaijan, July 12. Minister Ramil Usubov, warmly welcoming the guest, informed him in details on criminal situation existing in the Republic from gaining independence and how, under the leadership of President Heydar Aliyev, this situation was fully taken under control. Since 1996, the dynamics of the crimes began to reduce, and Azerbaijan is considered the most secure republic in the territory of the CIS countries at present. The Minister spoke as well on the democratic reforms, conducted in Azerbaijan and laws adopted in accordance with the European standards, and dwelled on its international relations. Noting his satisfaction with the Austrian-Azerbaijani ties, Minister Ramil Usubov highly appreciated the meeting held in 2000 and memorandum signed between the Ministries of Interior Affairs of the two countries. Minister of Interior Affairs of Austria Ernst Strasser thanked for such warm welcome, highly appreciated the activity of Ramil Usubov, and reminded the signed Memo in 2000, which put a base for the cooperation between the two ministries. Mr. Strasser noted that they would like to continue cooperation in the field of fight against crime, drug addiction, and illegal migration. This cooperation must be built not only on political level, but also on operative level. The Austrian Minister said that if they together could reestablish security in the region, the whole Europe would benefit it. He also proposed to sign an agreement on law enforcement, prevention of illegal migration and migrant deportation and return, which would allow widening cooperation and strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Austria. Minister Ramil Usubov expressed his gratitude to the guest, stressed the significance of the offered agreement on cooperation between the two countries and wished it to be signed shortly.
