International Conference themed "Law & Climate" gets underway in Baku

An international conference titled "Law & Climate" has commenced in Baku.
The opening ceremony of the event co-organized by the Azerbaijan Judges' Union and the Supreme Court was attended by Ramiz Rzayev, Chairman of Azerbaijan Judges’ Union, Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-designate and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Inam Karimov, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council, Duro Sessa, President of the International Association of Judges, Sabina Aliyeva, Azerbaijan`s Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), Basri Bağcı, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye, Anar Baghirov, Chairman of the Bar Association of Azerbaijan and other officials.
A two-session conference will feature a range of topics on “the international legal framework on climate change: key requirements of the Paris agreement of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC),” “court disputes on climate change: current trends and successful examples in the International and National Levels,” "climate change and environmental crimes, global demands and contemporary challenges", “plans and expectations of Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29,” “The role of the international association of judges in the field of environmental law”.
