ISSUES OF COMBAT AGAINST TERRORISM DISCUSSED

In combat against international terrorism it is necessary to united ands coordinate the efforts. It was the opinion of participants of the meeting held jointly by United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS) on 7 October.

The meeting was held at the OAS residence in Washington, and attended by specialists of high level in the field of combat against terrorism, and discussed were the topic “Strategy of combat against international terrorism: role of the regional and international organizations”, AzerTAj correspondent informed.

In his opening remarks, foreign minister of Salvador, Ms. Marry Euckhenia de Avila noted that the existent resolutions of UN and OAS create legal parameters for all the countries, set up effective strategy of combat against terrorism.

Speaking was on behalf of GUUAM, permanent representative of Azerbaijan at UN, ambassador Yashar Aliyev, who said: “One of the important duties of this Organization has been combat against international terrorism, organized crime and illegal circulation of narcotic substances”.

The Ambassador noted that Azerbaijan is the coordinator of GUUAM on anti-terrorist issues. Aiming at strengthening of security in the region in the frame of programs of GUUAM-US, there is being realized two important projects. Recently the GUUAM specialists discussed in Baku issues connected with realization of the projects of creation of the systems of management of Virtual Center and Inter-state information to prevent terrorism, organized crime, illegal circulation of narcotic substances and other dangerous forms of crimes.

Representatives of the European Commission, World Bank, OSCE, International Monetary Fund and other international organizations attended the meeting.
