Jeyhun Bayramov meets with Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community

Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The sides discussed prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and CARICOM, as well as initiatives to be implemented under Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency.
Minister Bayramov noted that the Secretary-General of CARICOM’s first visit to Azerbaijan provides an excellent opportunity to develop relations and highlighted the importance of expanding such engagements to explore new areas of collaboration. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s humanitarian aid initiatives during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, which benefitted more than 80 countries, including 20 small island states and 12 CARICOM member states.
The discussions also underlined the significance of fostering ties between Azerbaijan and CARICOM member states, particularly through people-to-people contacts, educational initiatives, and scholarship programs implemented by Azerbaijan. Speaking about Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency priorities, Minister Bayramov expressed gratitude to CARICOM for its support of Azerbaijan’s initiatives, especially the hosting of the Summit of Small Island Developing States. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to closer collaboration on climate action during its Presidency.
Secretary-General Carla Barnett acknowledged the complexity and responsibility of COP29’s Presidency and commended Azerbaijan for organizing the session at a high level. She expressed her best wishes for Azerbaijan’s success in its Presidency.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
