JUDO TOURNAMENT IN MEMORY OF AZI ASLANOV LAUNCHED IN BAKU
The tournament was organized by National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism, National Judo Federation and Baku city administration.
Opening the ceremony, Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism Abulfaz Karayev greeted the guests and participants of the traditional competition on behalf of leadership of National Olympic Committee, its president, Prime Minster Ilham Aliyev, NOC executive committee, National Judo Federation and thanked the organizers. He noted that Ilham Aliyev’s policy aimed at developing sports in Azerbaijan has led to great success. According to him, today, Azerbaijan is one of the sports center in the world. Within short time, European and world completion have been held along with construction of Olympic complexes all over Azerbaijan, which are up to world and European standards.
The winners of the first day are as follows: Samir Sarkarov (73 kg, Azerbaijan), Elkhan Rajabli (81 kg, Azerbaijan), Mindia Bodaveli (90 kg, Georgia), Zaur Tagiyev (under 100 kg, Azerbaijan) and Rufat Abbasov (over 100 kg, Azerbaijan).
Museyib Jafarov (73 kg), Zaur Pashayev (81 kg) Elvin Bagishov (under 100 kg) and Elkhan Jafarov (over 100 kg) have ranked second.
In girl’s section, Sona Ahmadova (under 63 kg, Azerbaijan), Zair Abigasanov (70 kg, Russia), Firdana Shukurova (under 78 kg, Azerbaijan), Tofsiya Mammadova (over 78 kg, Azerbaijan) have all became winners. Meanwhile, Dursadaf Hasanova (under 63 kg), Bakhriya Huseynova (70 kg), Samira Efendiyeva (under 78 kg) and Iolanta Zinina (over 78 kg) have secured silver medals.
The tournament will be completed on September 28 by fights in 4 weight categories.
