‘Love and culture should become basis of relations between the nations’, ambassador Zeynalov
Riga, May 6 (AZERTAC). Ambassador of the Azerbaijan Republic to Latvia Elman Zeynalov has given interview to the Russian newspaper of Latvia "Chas”, published in the portal of newspaper. In the interview, titled “Not only oil, but love and culture” the Ambassador underlines that for Azerbaijan development of relations with Latvia means as well as development of relations with the European Union. And cooperation with the European Union is the main vector of foreign policy of the Azerbaijani state. “Azerbaijan as the oil-producing country makes contribution to maintenance of power security of Europe. We are a reliable partner who never uses the resources in other purposes”, the diplomat stressed.
Speaking of the interest of Azerbaijan to Latvia, the Azerbaijani ambassador noted that it just now is being actively formed. For last two months the quantity of the visas given out to Latvia has twice increased, visits of officials became more intensive. “In the mid-May the session of inter-governmental commission will be held to which we shall give a new impulse”, Ambassador Zeynalov said.
Concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Ambassador noted that Azerbaijan is interested in the quick settlement of the conflict.
Speaking of the question on Russian language in the country, Zeynalov noted that Russian language has no official status in Azerbaijan, but is highly esteemed. Baku always was and remains the multinational city where the inhabitants set example of tolerance both to all languages and religions, and to their carriers. In Azerbaijan, there are Russian newspapers. Opening in Baku of branch of the Moscow State University became two years ago.
Answering the question on how Azerbaijan builds relations with compatriots in Latvia, the diplomat told that there are two Azerbaijani societies, uniting many worthy people who want to make contribution, first of all, to cultural cooperation. I hope, inhabitants of Latvia will have more and more possibilities to get acquainted with Azerbaijani culture,” he said.
“Cultural dialogue only begins. Not only oil and gas, but also love and culture should become a basis of relations between the nations, Ambassador Zeynalov said.
