MIGRATION QUESTIONS DISCUSSED
Greeting the guests, Minister Nagiyev said the day coincides with the commemoration day of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and his memory was revered.
Ms. Barbro Holmberg stated that establishment of bilateral links serve all-round cooperation in the field of migration. These processes should be regulated according the international principles to provide the labor migrants rights. The guest also interested in the migration processes in Azerbaijan.
Minister Ali Nagiyev said the migration processes began to be regulated after the country gained state independence. On this purpose, director general of the International Organization for Migration on (IOM) Mr. Brunson McKinley visited Azerbaijan in October 2000, and gave high assessment to the activities of Azerbaijan government in this field.
Azerbaijan is member of the International Organization for Migration. In cooperation with the Council of Europe Migration Committee a relevant legislative base is being created in the Republic, he said. Along with other necessary programs, has been drafted the “State Migration program of the Azerbaijan Republic” to provide realization of the fixed tasks.
Minister Nagiyev also highlighted on the migrants from other countries working in Azerbaijan noting they mainly work in the oil sector.
