MILLI MAJLIS CHAIRMAN RECEIVES TURKEY’S JUSTICE MINISTER
On July 4, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Murtuz Alasgarov received Minister of Justice of Turkey Jamil Chichek and his retinue.In the course of the conversation, the Speaker dwelt on political, economical, and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey noting the affinity of the two nations’ traditions and interests. According to him, the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey withstood the test of time and after gaining independence, reached a qualitatively new level. The Chairman pointed out the great role the reciprocal visits of the Heads of State had played in the development of bilateral relations. ‘Reiterated meeting of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev with ex-president of Turkey Suleyman Demirel, and incumbent president Ahmet Necdet Sezer, the documents signed as a result of negotiations, laid a legal foundation for cooperation between the two countries’ he said. Mr. Alasgarov noted with feeling of gratitude the Turkey’s statement on rejection of opening borders with Armenia until occupied Azerbaijani territories are liberated. In conclusion, he informed the Turkish Minister of the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that overwhelming majority of the people would vote for guarantor of stability, security and prosperity of the region – Heydar Aliyev. Justice Minister of Turkey Jamil Chichek expressed satisfaction with his stay in fraternal and friendly Azerbaijan and mentioned that he had become an eyewitness of the positive changes in all spheres of life and much work carried out for the sake of prosperity of the country. Speaking of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Mr. Chichek noted that fraternal Turkey stands up now and would always do for the just position of Azerbaijan on the matter. ‘Back in 20’s of the last century we sustained the same problems, and we believe that Azerbaijan - just as Turkey in its time - will surely overcome the difficulties and restore its territorial integrity’, the Minister said. Present at the meeting was Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan Ahmet Unal Chevikez.
