On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, outstanding political and public figure, AZERTAC highlights the chronology of the thorny and glorious path traveled by the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people, his unique political and public activities, and his life dedicated to the people.
8 January. First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the USSR Heydar Aliyev received a delegation of the Polish People’s Republic.
7 March. He met with Minister of National Defense of Ethiopia Lieutenant General Tesfaye Gebre Kidan.
15-18 March. He visited Volgograd Oblast.
14 October. He met with Kuwait’s Minister of Oil Sheikh Ali Al-Khalifa Al-Sabah in Kremlin.
21 October. He was dismissed from membership of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union by the decree of the Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of USSR due to health conditions.
24 October. He was dismissed as the First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of USSR.

On 29 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to declare 2023 as a “Year of Heydar Aliyev” in the country. 10 May 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and an outstanding politician and statesman.
