On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, outstanding political and public figure, AZERTAC highlights the chronology of the thorny and glorious path traveled by the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people, his unique political and public activities, and his life dedicated to the people.

13 January. Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Heydar Aliyev signed a statement of the Presidium demanding to give legal and political assessment to the tragic events occurred on January 20, 1990.

19 January. He received Turkish delegation who arrived in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to discuss the issues of commissioning customs frontier checkpoint between the Turkey and Nakhchvian.

1 March. He strongly condemned the Khojaly genocide as he made a speech at the inauguration ceremony of new airport in Nakhchivan.

22-25 March. He embarked on an official visit to Turkey.

27 April. He received employees of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey.

5 May. He delivered a speech at the meeting on the defense of Nakhchivan AR at the Nakhchivan city Central Square.

7 May. He made a speech at the meeting in Sharur district on Armenia’s military provocation.

18 May. He had telephone conversations with Turkey’s Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel, Foreign Minister Hikmet Chetin, and First Deputy Prime Minister Erdal İnönü over Armenian military provocation committed against Sadarak district.

21 May. He received a delegation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey who arrived in Nakhchivan.

22 May. In a televised speech, he addressed the people of Nakhchivan AR over Armenian aggression against the Autonomous Republic.

25 May. He delivered a speech at the meeting of the Presidium of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan AR over Armenian aggression against Nakhchivan.

27 May. He met with a special delegation of the United Nations in Nakhchivan.

28 May. Turkish Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel arrived in Nakhchivan. The opening ceremony of the Umid bridge between Nakchivan and Turkey built over Araz River was held.

1-5 June. He visited Turkey.

17 June. He met with U.S. Charge d`Affaires in Azerbaijan Richard Miles in Nakhchivan.

9 July. He signed an order on declaration of Sadarak-Diluju bridge as an official frontier checkpoint between Turkey and Nakhchivan.

8 August. He made a speech at the meeting of Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

10-14 August. He visited Turkey.

18 August. He attended the ceremony of signing of the act of complete cession of property of Russia’s 75th motor rifle division stationed in Nakhchivan to National Army brigade.

22-26 August. He embarked on an official visit to Islamic Republic of Iran.

16 September. He made a speech at the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

5 October. He met with the first group of students who were sent to study in Turkey.

9 October. He delivered a speech at the military parade dedicated to the 1st year anniversary of establishment of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces held at Azadlig square in Nakhchivan.

16 October. A group of Azerbaijani intelligentsia (renowned 91 representatives) appealed to Heydar Aliyev to chair to the newly-established party.

18 October. He attended the oath-taking ceremony of the first Azerbaijan border guards units stationed in Nakhchivan.

23 October. He delivered a speech at the event dedicated to the 110th birth anniversary of Huseyn Javid.

24 October. His letter entitled “For new, independent Azerbaijan” was published in the media in response to a call of representatives of Azerbaijani intelligentsia.

25 October. He addressed the people via Nakhchivan radio.

He made a speech at the extraordinary session of Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan AR.

27 October. He gave a press conference for local and foreign journalists.

28 October. He delivered a speech at the meeting dedicated to the attempt of coup d'etat in Nakhchivan on October 24.

5 November. He was elected as a Chairman of Organizing Committee formed to establish the New Azerbaijan Party.

10 November. He held an official meeting on defense of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

12 November. He delivered a speech at the event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishment of Nakhchivan State University.

21 November. He was elected as a Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) at the inaugural meeting.

25 November. He made a radio broadcast addressing the people to prevent an attempt of coup d'etat in Nakhchivan AR.

17 December. He chaired an official meeting over the harsh economic situation emerged in Nakhchivan.

On 29 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to declare 2023 as a “Year of Heydar Aliyev” in the country. 10 May 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and an outstanding politician and statesman.
