4 January. President Heydar Aliyev attended the ceremony of signing the agreement on mutual protection of investments between Republic of Azerbaijan and Kingdom of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
5 January. He met with Azerbaijani MPs of Georgian Parliament.
8 January. He delivered a speech at the first meeting of the Cabinet Ministers.
10-11 January. He visited France to attend the funeral ceremony of former French President Francois Mitterand. During the visit, he met with a number of state leaders and gave an interview to French television.
17-19 January. He attended the Summit of heads of state of CIS countries held in Moscow.
20 January. He visited the Alley of Martyrs.
He made a speech at the event to commemorate martyrs of 20 January tragedy held at the Republic Palace.
24 January. He received U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Kauzlarich.
26 January. He received the Permanent Representative of the Organization of Islamic Conference to UN Ahmet Engin Ansay.
29 January. He met with Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent George Weber.
He attended the event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of birth of the renowned scholar Sara Ashurbayli.
31 January. He held an official meeting on discussion of budget for 1996.

On 29 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to declare 2023 as a “Year of Heydar Aliyev” in the country. 10 May 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and an outstanding politician and statesman.
