3 January. President Heydar Aliyev received former world chess champion Anatoly Karpov.
5 January. He congratulated the Orthodox Christians of Azerbaijan on the occasion of Christmas.
6 January. He met with the delegation led by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Valery Serov.
7 January. He made a speech at the event held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the People's poet Gabil.
13-15 January. He paid an official visit to France. As part of the visit, he met with French President Jacques Chirac, Mayor of Paris Jean Tiberi, Chairman of the National Assembly Philippe Seguin and held other meetings.
14 January. He addressed the opening ceremony of the French-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris. On the same day, he was interviewed by "France-Presse" agency, "TV-ARTE" television channel, "Puan" magazine, "Expansion" magazine, participated in the signing ceremony of French-Azerbaijani documents, made a speech at the official reception organized by the French-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
15 January. He was interviewed by "Euronews" and the French "TV-5" television channel, and responded to questions of foreign journalists accredited in this country. He met with representatives of the Azerbaijani community living in France.
19 January. He visited the People's poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzada, who was undergoing treatment in the hospital.
20 January. He visited the Alley of Martyrs. He watched the literary and artistic composition dedicated to the memory of the January 20 martyrs in the Republic Palace, and addressed the meeting with the art masters who presented the composition.
21 January. He held the next session of the Legal Reforms Commission. He received William White, chairman of the board of directors of the US Company "Frontera Resources".
25 January. He made a speech at the 60th anniversary of the "Neftchi" Sports and Health Center and the opening ceremony of the center's Olympic facility.
28 January. He received Vice Presidents of British Petroleum and Norwegian Statoil Byron Grote and Rolf Magne Larsen.
30 January. He made a speech at the meeting dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He received the delegation led by Lord Fraser, Minister of Energy of Great Britain.
31 January. He met with the leadership of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, full and corresponding members, institute directors and leading scientists of the Academy of Sciences at the Presidential Palace.

On 29 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to declare 2023 as a “Year of Heydar Aliyev” in the country. 10 May 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and an outstanding politician and statesman.
