On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, outstanding political and public figure, AZERTAC highlights the chronology of the thorny and glorious path traveled by the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people, his unique political and public activities, and his life dedicated to the people.

June 3. President Heydar Aliyev received the Minister of Energy and Industry of Great Britain.
He received a delegation led by Turkish Gendarmerie General Commander Shener Eruygur.
June 4. He met with a delegation led by Adviser on Caspian Energy Diplomacy of the US State Department Steven Mann.
June 7. He received a delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
June 11. He received Minister of Health of Turkey Recep Akdag.
June 14. He met with US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ross Wilson.
June 18. He received the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece.
July 4. He met with Turkish Minister of Justice Cemil Cicek.
July 8. He received the delegation of the European Union.
He held a meeting of the Security Council.
He left for Ankara to undergo a medical examination at the "Gülhane" Military Medical Academy.
August 4. He sent an appeal to the Milli Majlis recommending to discuss the appointment of Ilham Aliyev as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
August 6. He left Ankara for Cleveland, U.S. to continue his treatment and examination.
October 1. Addressing the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev declared that he withdrew his candidacy in the presidential elections in favor of his political successor Ilham Aliyev, and called to support his candidacy in the elections.
December 12. Heydar Aliyev died at the Cleveland Clinic at 19:00 Baku time.
December 14. Heydar Aliyev's body was brought to Baku.
December 15. A national farewell ceremony for Heydar Aliyev was held at the Republic Palace.
Heydar Alirza oglu Aliyev was buried in the Alley of Honors.

On 29 September, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to declare 2023 as a “Year of Heydar Aliyev” in the country. 10 May 2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, and an outstanding politician and statesman.
