OSCE OBSERVERS STARTING MONITORING OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN
Mission of the experts arrived in Azerbaijan on the invitation of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic, AzerTAj correspondent was told at the OSCE Baku office. Experts will be based on OSCE Baku office and different regions of Azerbaijan.
OSCE experts will observe pre-election process in mass media, observation of Electoral Code, activity of the Central Election Committee and regional election committees’ activities, as well as counting of votes. One of the tasks of the international experts is to estimate Presidential elections in the light of international obligations for elections taken by Azerbaijan as an OSCE member.
“These elections are crucial test for Azerbaijan democracy. The Republic deserves independent and fair elections”, Peter Euchre, head of the OSCE experts mission said.
It should be reminded that OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Hunan Rights intends on the eve of elections to send over 500 observers all over the Republic, who jointly with the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE and Council of Europe will observe voting process, count bulletins and draw up schedule of the votes.
It was noted that on October 16, OSCE observers would announce preliminary results of the elections, but final report to be published only in a month.
