OSCE OFFICIAL SATISFIED WITH ACTIVITIES OF AZERBAIJAN IN COMBAT AGAINST TERRORISM
As stated, Minister Usubov highlighted the guest on the social-political processes in the last decade after gaining state independence, hard criminal situation in the early 90s of the last century, functions and duties of the Interior Ministry as one of the major structures of the Azerbaijani statehood.
Colonel-general Ramil Usubov noted that return of Heydar Aliyev who has rich experience of statehood and management, to the Republic in the complicated period when the Country faced the thereat of civil war, when chaos and anarchy, atmosphere of impunity ruled here, created a turning point in combat against criminality, as well as in other spheres. Just thanks to farseeing and expedient internal and foreign policy of the leader of the Country, his resoluteness and principality, attention and exactingness to the activity of law-enforcement bodies in short a period was abolished the tendencies connected with the loss of statehood, with the threat of civil war, and annual growth of criminality. And since 1995, in the Country, was established stability, and criminal situation was taken under control, which set up favorable conditions for the economy of Azerbaijan, quick investment flow to the Republic, peaceful and secure life and activity for the citizens of the Country, foreign businessmen.
Noting that after 11 September tragedy in the United States, terrorism, aggressive separatism have become serious menace for humanity, the Minister stated that the Country constantly suffers from this evil, it actively backs the efforts of world community in combat against all forms of terrorism.
Noting further expansion of cooperation with authoritative international organizations, the Minister highly appreciated the assistance rendered by OSCE to the Country in combat against terrorism, underlined that it has positive impact on combat against terrorism. Informing that Azerbaijan signed all 12 international Conventions on combat against terror and conducts active work in this field, Ramil Usubov stressed that the Republic of Azerbaijan would be in the advance in combat against this evil.
Extending his gratitude for warm and detailed information, Mr. Brian Woe expressed to the Country’s leadership, Interior Ministry, for provided information, for active support of the international community in combat against terrorism, narcotics and criminality in the whole, for successful conclusions in the field of reduction of crimes, contributions in preservation of stability and security. The guest, noting that he was coming for the first time to the Caucasus region, to the Republic of Azerbaijan, underlined that he was deeply impressed and expressed satisfaction with the activity of Azerbaijan in the field of combat against terrorism. He especially underlined that cooperation of Azerbaijan with the OSCE has large opportunities also in this field and spoke of the work that OSCE is going to do in coming years.
The parties discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
