PACE HIGHLY APPRECIATES ONGOING PROCESSES IN AZERBAIJAN

On September 10, a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe monitoring group took place in Paris. Along with a wide-range of issues, the meeting was focused on the situation around the fulfillment of commitments undertaken by South Caucasian countries.

The monitoring group members Andreas Gross and Martines Kassan who had recently visited Azerbaijan, delivered a brief report on pre-election situation and fulfillment of the commitments by Azerbaijan.

Later, debates revolved around these issues.

Members of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Naira Shahtakhtinskaya, Asim Mollazadeh and Bakhtiyar Aliyev made statements on the issue. They pointed out to some omissions in the report delivered by the rapporteurs pertaining the wrong statement that there are five opposition representatives in the Central Election Committee, however, as a matter of fact there are only 5 representatives of ruling party, while the rest of CEC members belong to opposition.

Processes taking place in Azerbaijan as well as fulfillment of the country’s commitments to the Council of Europe have been highly appreciated at the meeting.
