Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan General-Colonel Safar Abiyev met with a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by Navy Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Shahid Karimulla on September 10.

According to the press-service of the Ministry, General-Colonel Safar Abiyev pointed out that it prospects of Azerbaijan-Pakistan co-operation had been defined during meetings of the two countries’ presidents. “Defense Ministers of Azerbaijan and Pakistan have signed a co-operation agreement, our officers continue to study in Pakistani Higher Military Schools, and we express for that our gratitude to the country’s leaders”, he said.

Admiral Shahid Karimulla extended greeting from Pakistani President Parviz Musharraf and Prime-Minister of the country, and pointed out that Pakistan had been the first country to recognize independence of Azerbaijan. “This is a token of our people’s respect to the people of Azerbaijan,” he said.

General-Colonel Safar Abiyev and delegation have held a thorough exchange of views on successful development of Azerbaijan-Pakistan, Azerbaijan-Turkey relations and military and political situation in South Caucasus region.

The Pakistani Admiral wished Azerbaijani nation to create strong army, and stressed Pakistan would continue supporting Azerbaijan in all areas.

The meeting was attended by First Secretary of Pakistani Embassy Mushtag Ahmad and Land Forces Military attachй in Iran and Azerbaijan Brigadier General Zahid Mubasher Sheik.
