PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES PRESIDENT OF CIS POWER INDUSTRY COUNCIL, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE JOINT STOCK COMPANY UNIFIED ENERGY SYSTEMS OF RUSSIA ANATOLIY CHUBAYS
Warmly greeting the guest, President Ilham Aliyev recalled with pleasure their previous meeting, and pointed out the rapid development of the relations between the two counties including the cooperation in the sphere of power industry.
Having described his last visit to Russia as very fruitful, he said that during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before in the Kremlin, they had exchanged views on further strengthening of Azerbaijan-Russia cooperation in various fields, and mentioned the growth of goods turnover between the two countries. We stressed the necessity to intensify the efforts to expand the existing links, and in this context, the cooperation in the power industry is of great importance, and corresponds to the principles of regional cooperation, the Head of State said.
The Azerbaijani leader expressed hope the visit to Azerbaijan by Mr. Anatoliy Chubays will promote deepening of the Azerbaijan-Russia cooperation on the base of the growing energy exchange between the two countries.
President of CIS Power Industry Council Anatoliy Chubays thanked the President for the kind words and noted it was a great honor for him to meet again with Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
Touching upon the work being carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of power industry, he advised that during this visit he had familiarized with the 400 MW steam-and-gas turbine installed at the “Severnaya” Hydroelectric Power Station in Baku.
Construction of this giant, which is one of the world’s most powerful turbines and the only one in CIS became possible due to the huge efforts by outstanding political leader Heydar Aliyev, he said.
Mr. Chubays also noted that Azerbaijan and Russia succeeded not only in the field of power industry but also in that of regional cooperation. The role of Azerbaijan in regional cooperation is growing day by day, and working group on the regional cooperation will promote acceleration of this work, he said.
The guest finally expressed confidence that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in all spheres will be further developed and strengthened.
Present at the meeting were Fist Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov, President of the Joint Stock Company “Azerenergi” Etibar Pirverdiyev and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the CIS Power Industry Council Yevgeniy Mushuk.
