Presidential Assistant: Garabagh being rebuilt using modern urban planning methods
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
“As a result of the occupation, nearly nine cities of Azerbaijan were almost completely destroyed, and more than 300 settlements and villages were severely damaged. We continue the restoration works. Garabagh is being rebuilt using modern urban planning methods,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, during his speech at the panel session titled “Housing at the Centre of Global Coalitions.”
The Presidential Assistant emphasized that these territories are being restored from scratch, and sometimes even from “negative” levels, as the lands were heavily contaminated with mines. “The presence of approximately 1.5 million mines and other explosive devices poses a serious threat to safety. Therefore, large-scale demining operations are being carried out, because in the post-conflict recovery process, issues of security and living conditions are extremely important. At the same time, opportunities to use international experience and expertise in the restoration of the liberated territories are being explored,” he added.
