Resolute Ghana earn draw against England

A disciplined defensive display helped Ghana secure a goalless draw against England at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The first half was marked more by determination than creativity, as Ghana stood firm against sustained England pressure. The Three Lions' only notable opportunity came from a looping header by Declan Rice that sailed over the crossbar.
After the break, Elliot Anderson saw a close-range header blocked shortly before Anthony Gordon's effort was saved by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. Harry Kane then tested Asare with a low drive, but the Ghanaian keeper was again equal to the task.
Ghana, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the counterattack and came close to breaking the deadlock with less than ten minutes remaining. Abdul Fatawu was sent through on goal against Jordan Pickford, but although Ezri Konsa recovered to block his initial effort, Fatawu's follow-up attempt was inadvertently blocked near the goal line by teammate Antoine Semenyo.
England's best chances came in the 87th minute. A flowing move ended with Reece James delivering a cross to Nico O'Reilly, whose header struck the crossbar. The rebound fell to Kane, but he fired over the bar.
The result leaves both England and Ghana in the top two positions in Group L heading into the final round of matches. A point from their respective games against Panama and Croatia would secure qualification for the Round of 32.
