“Round table” on Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis held in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan
Baku, March 31 (AZERTAC). The Executive Power of Sumgayit organized a “round table” on 31 March- Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis was in the Sumgayit Museum of History on Wednesday.
The “round table” brought together deputies of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), employees of Sumgayit`s institutions and organizations, chief of municipalities, historic scientists and representatives of city community.
Opening the event, head of Sumgayit Executive Power Eldar Azizov informed the participants on the massacres committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1918. The head noted the state-level political evaluation of the criminal acts of Armenians against the Azeri people was given only by the Decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev “On the genocide of Azerbaijanis” dated 26 March, 1998.
Teachers of Baku State University and Sumgayit State University provided information with facts the truth about the evil deeds committed by Armenians. The speakers stressed the genocide of Azerbaijanis in 1918 along with 20 January tragedy in 1990 and the Khojaly massacre in 1992 is one of the bloody pages of history.
Eldar Azizov supported the suggestion of historians of Sumgayit for built-up book on genocide. He made decision on establishment of relevant working group.
The participants have adopted declaration on 31 March - Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
