SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE – “GLOBALIZATION AND ISLAM”
Agamusa Akhundov, director of the ANAS Linguistics Institute named after Nasimi, pinpointed the topic of the conference in view of the scientific interest in Islam nowadays.
Director of the Oriental Studies Institute, doctor of philological sciences, Milli Majlis deputy Gevhar Bakhshaliyeva delivered a report entitled “Integration Processes in today’s world, Islam and necessity of dialogue among cultures”. The report says Islam plays an important role in the twisted political, economical and cultural processes in the world. In this respect, the issue of “Globalization and Islam” becomes more urgent. After regaining its independence Azerbaijan joined all the international Islamic organizations. According to the report, economical and cultural ties with Muslim states encourage Azerbaijani orientalists to scrutinize the Islam-war and Islam-peace relationships as well as tolerance, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue.
Chairman of the Clerical Office of the Caucasian Muslims, Sheikh ul-Islam, and doctor of historical sciences, Prof. Allahshukur Pashazadeh noted in his report that the issue of globalization touches not only Islamic countries but also the others. A. Pashazadeh pointed out the international conference entitled “Islamic Community and Globalization”. However, there is not a single assessment of globalization as it has positive and negative sides. Globalization is the single information area and technical progress.
ANAS corresponding member, dean of the BSU chair of theology, Prof. Vasim Mammadaliyev, ambassador of Egypt to Azerbaijan Jihan Amin Mohammad Ali and ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ali Hasan Ahmad Jafar stressed the importance of the topic at the time when some politicians try to connect negative political developments with Islam. However, terrorism and islam are incompatible as terrorism is an evil and Islam firmly denies it.
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that his country instituted the international King Feysal prize to be conferred on the best works on globalization.
