SCO TASHKENT SUMMIT OPENS

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization commenced on June 17 in Tashkent, AzerTAj correspondent learnt from the embassy of Uzbekistan in Baku. So-called “Shanghai Five”, which is the mechanism strengthening mutual trust and downsizing armies along the borders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirghyzstan, Tajikistan, happened to be a prototype of SCO. Heads of these states and Uzbekistan gathered in Shanghai and declared the founding of a new regional organization Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The chair duties were discharged by Uzbekistan for the passed year. Exactly during this period, permanent SCO bodies began completely functioning. Uzbekistan initiated a meeting of SCO Ministries of Economy and Trade in order to develop some proposals on the economic cooperation program. Uzbekistan also initiated the first meeting of Security Council secretaries of SCO countries in early June.
