The second round of the Calisthenics World Cup started in Baku on August 9. Female athletes from 17 countries – Azerbaijan, Russia, USA, Georgia, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, India, Spain, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Israel and Japan – are competing in the tournament, including such world’s top gymnasts as Alina Kabayeva and Irina Chashina, Russia, Inna Zhukova, Belarus, Elizabeth Paiseva, Bulgaria and Almuden Sid, Spain.

This is the first such prestigious gymnastics competition in Baku since Azerbaijan’s joining the International Gymnastics Federation, and the great role in its holding in the capital of Azerbaijan belongs to President of Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva.

Azerbaijan is represented by five athletes: Dinara Gimatova, Dina Gorina, Valeria Egay, Nurjan Asgarova and Vafa Huseynova.

Opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by Chairman of the Milli Majlis Murtuz Alasgarov, Prime-Minister of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev, Chief of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev, First Vice-Premier Artur Rasizadeh, and President of the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva
