Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis meets with Ugandan Vice President

As part of her working visit to Serbia, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Jessica Alupo, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda.
The sides reviewed the current state of relations between the two countries.
They also hailed cooperation and joint activities within the framework of the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, noting that Azerbaijan had successfully completed its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement and handed over the chairmanship to Uganda.
Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the importance of cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement and shared her views on Azerbaijan’s efforts during its four-year chairmanship of the organization, President Ilham Aliyev’s initiatives, as well as the establishment and reforms of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the achievements made during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship.
The officials also touched upon the current state of bilateral relations in a number of areas, describing the “ASAN Khidmet” model as a successful example of cooperation between the two countries.
Currently, the “ASAN Khidmet” model is being successfully implemented in Uganda, and the two countries are cooperating in a number of areas. Additionally, Ugandan students benefited from the “Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant” program during 2024–2025.
The meeting also addressed the development of interparliamentary cooperation and highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits.
Jessica Alupo noted that Uganda highly values its existing bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and is keen to further develop cooperation.
According to her, good opportunities exist to advance cooperation in investment, trade, agriculture, science, technology, and other areas.
Jessica Alupo expressed her gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support during Uganda’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement.
She also shared her views on the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in international organizations, as well as within the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
