Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament meets with IPU Secretary General

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met on Friday with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues related to Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, as well as the arrangements for the upcoming Parliamentary Meeting to be co-organized by the IPU and the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan on the margins of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Martin Chungong congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting such a remarkable international event as COP29.
The sides highlighted the high-level preparations for the COP29, also commending the work done to this end.
They hailed the fact that COP29 brought together over 70,000 delegates from various countries, describing it as a clear evidence of the enormous interest in this event.
During the conversation, the two praised the relations between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the IPU. The meeting highlighted Azerbaijan’s active contribution to the IPU activities and events, along with the fruitful collaboration between Azerbaijan and the IPU.
The sides also stressed the importance of the conference in terms of discussing further steps to combat climate change.
