Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova meets with President of Ghana

As part of her working visit to Serbia, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, met with John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.
The meeting focused on the current state and prospects of the development of Azerbaijan-Ghana relations.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed Azerbaijan’s interest in advancing relations with Ghana, pointing out the opportunities for expanding relations between the two countries across various sectors.
Discussions also focused on establishing diplomatic relations and of international cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ghana. Both sides hailed the cooperation and joint activities between the two countries within the UN, Non-Aligned Movement and other international organizations, emphasizing the importance of strengthening mutual support and collaboration on international platforms in this regard.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis highlighted the efforts Azerbaijan had undertaken during the 4-year-long chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the initiatives the country had put forward and the considerable successes that had been achieved.
Touching upon the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, Sahiba Gafarova said that that platform played an important role in the furtherance of relations among the Member States’ parliaments and in exchange of experience.
During the meeting, special attention was also paid to enhancing inter-parliamentary relations.
President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama said that his country attaches great significance to developing ties with Azerbaijan. He stressed that expansion of inter-parliamentary ties, reciprocal visits and cooperation across various sectors will contribute to advancing bilateral relations.
It was mentioned that Ghanaian students’ engagement in Azerbaijan’s scholarship programmes and Ghanaian diplomats’ attendance of the ADA University training sessions and courses are positive examples of the two countries’ humanitarian ties.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views regarding other matters of mutual interest.
