STATEMENT OF SUMGAIT STATE UNIVERSITY
STATEMENT
October 15 Presidential elections were received with inspiration in our society. Because people of Azerbaijan expressed its will in democratic and transparent situation at the elections and elected Ilham Aliyev as its President - a worthy successor of the political course of a world known statesman Heydar Aliyev. This choice makes us to believe and hope for the happy future of our Azerbaijan.
However, at the instigation of the leader of Musavat Isa Gambar, Cochairmen of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu, Chairman of Umid party Igbal Agazadeh and others pretending to be political leaders and, “human rights defenders”, individuals of radical direction, living by dreams that “everything may come back”, dregs of our society started disturbances in the streets and squares of Baku on October 15 and 16, injured police officers, internal troops officers, journalists, women and elderly.
They organized the disturbances, calling their supporters from suburbs of Baku. In the course of the disturbances, the civilians suffered damages. Acts of vandalism was the reason for indignation among the staff of our university and public of the city.
We demand law enforcement organs to take urgent actions against people involved into these disturbances at the assignment of the leader of Musavat Isa Gambar and members of other parties shown solidarity. The participants of the meeting condemn the actions of Igbal Agazadeh and support the decision against him taken by the Milli Majlis.
Presidential elections of October 15 showed that a considerable progress in the field of democratic society foundation has been achieved in Azerbaijan. We greet it.
